"I was eating bad stuff. Lots of sugar and junk food all the time. It makes you very irritated."
The average American consumes 137 pounds of sugar a year. Sugar, also known by nutrition and wellness consultants as white poison can contribute to a list of health problems and issues. A little sugar, not so bad but a lot of sugar is not so good.
Too much sugar in the diet can suppress the immune system, contribute to hyperactivity, anxiety and depression.
Sugar can also increase inflammation in the body which can contribute to the increase risk of heart disease and diabetes. Remember, parents it is just as important for you to watch your sugar intake as it is for your child.
How can we better at eating sugar in moderate amounts?
Start by reading the labels of the foods you buy. Most of the foods that are in a box contain a long list of chemicals and ingredients that are just not good for the body. Think of the snacks and drinks that allow you to use sugar in its most natural form. These are the foods that you should allow yourself and your child to consume in moderate portions.
Encourage fresh fruits and 100% all natural fruit juices. When you want to make a fun sweet snack for the house like brownies, cookies, cakes or pies do so from scratch. Sure it takes a little more time but it does taste better.
Your child will come to appreciate the taste of what is natural, what is God made and not man made. Remember there is a lot of love that goes into that homemade dessert. Think about those special things your grandma used to make and follow that example. Make those special memories and pass it down to generations.
Okay, sure making things from scratch may seem a little overwhelming. I mean our time is so limited isn't it. When your tempted to go the easy route picking the box dessert over the homemade Just take a quick look at that list of chemicals on the box and then take a look at the ingredients on that made from scratch recipes.
I guarantee you that you will think twice about what you want your child to consume.
Give your child the best chance at performance, at health, at life.
